  • Emergency Contact Information Family Letter

As stated in Chancellor's Regulation A-210 Section III-G, schools should be collecting emergency contact information from parents and guardians. You should ensure that the emergency contact information for each student has:

    • An updated current address; and
    • Contact information of a trusted adult who can and will be able to come to school in the event of an emergency.

Schools should distribute this backpack letter (available in all DOE languages) to families and encourage them to update their emergency contact information.

As a reminder, families can update student's emergency contact and health information in NYCSA. Note that parents/guardians must still be allowed to provide this information via the blue emergency contact card, if requested.

For questions, contact your OPE lead supporting all academic policy, performance, and assessment workflows.

  • A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

    Dear Parents/Guardians:

Students are most likely to succeed when they are supported socially and emotionally. At Abraham Lincoln High School, we have invested in building a strong support system for all students, and we are committed to educating students about mental health, seeking help, and supporting their peers. Our team of school social workers and mental health community partners provide short-term counseling, crisis intervention, and referral to community-based counseling services.

This winter, we will take a proactive approach to meet our students’ social-emotional needs by facilitating a student mental wellness self-assessment. All students will complete a short questionnaire regarding their mental health.  School social workers will review completed questionnaires, and students who indicate a certain level of challenges will have a one-on-one meeting with a social worker, guidance counselor or Crew Leader.

Our goals of this initiative are twofold.

    • Identify students who may benefit from additional support and to offer these students preventive/early intervention.
    • Educate students about social and emotional well-being and the school culture at Lincoln.

Every student’s social and emotional needs are important to the school.  We want all students to get the support they need and deserve.

Student self-assessments will take place in social studies classes. If you have any questions, concerns, or wish to opt out

please contact Assistant Principal, David Robinson at (718) 333-7462 or drobinson10@schools.nyc.go.:

    Sincerely yours,

    Ari A. Hoogenboom

  • Message from the Chancellor

Dear New York City Public Schools Community,

As a public school system, I believe we have a set of core responsibilities to our students and families. We must, first and foremost, keep students safe. We must also prepare them to become leaders of the next generation. For these reasons, a presidential election represents an especially important moment in our school communities.

As I highlighted in last week’s PS + You newsletter, our Civics team has done tremendous work to civically engage our students throughout this election. We are instilling in our children a deep appreciation for and understanding of democracy.

As we prepare for the presidential transition in January, our children may be wondering what these election results mean for them. First, I want to reassure you that we remain steadfast in our commitment to maintain safe and supportive environments for our students, staff, and families. That is our top priority and our first responsibility as a school system.

Additionally, I encourage us all—educators, school leaders, families, and community members— to discuss this election with our students and to model thoughtful civil discourse in doing so. We must support our students to ask questions, learn the facts, and express their perspectives respectfully. Please visit schools.nyc.gov/currentevents for resources that will be helpful in creating space for discussion.

Finally, as community members, we will continue to take care of our students and each other. Every school has on-site mental health support (see schools.nyc.gov/mentalhealth), and if you need assistance yourself, you can call or text 988. If you have questions or concerns about student safety and support, please contact your principal or district superintendent.

As we look ahead to the future of our country and our democracy, I want to thank you for being part of the New York City Public Schools community. Public education is a cornerstone of our society, and we are working every day to prepare the next generation of leaders. Thank you for guiding, nurturing, and supporting all our children and for upholding our New York City values each and every day.

    In partnership,

  • Respect for All in NYC Public Schools

Respect for All in NYC Public Schools

Each student and staff member brings to our public school community the richness of our city’s cultural diversity and the desire for respect.

It is the policy of the Department to maintain a safe and supportive learning environment that is free from harassment, intimidation and/or bullying and from discrimination on account of actual or perceived race, color, citizenship/immigration status, religion, creed, national origin, disability, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation or weight. The policy prohibits such behavior by students against other students and by staff against students.

Respect: esteem for or sense of worth or excellence of a person; proper acceptance or courtesy; regard for the dignity of another’s character; acknowledgment; the condition of being esteemed or honored; to show regard or consideration for another.

Such discrimination, harassment, intimidation and/or bullying is prohibited in school, during school hours, before or after school, while on school property, at school sponsored events, or while traveling on vehicles funded by the Department of Education.

It is also prohibited on other than school property when such behavior disrupts or would foreseeably disrupt the educational process or endangers or would foreseeably endanger the health, safety, morality or welfare of the school community.

This Frequently Asked Questions is a resource for students and parents about how to report incidents, the investigation process, and supports and interventions to prevent and address student-to-student sexual harassment and student-to-student gender-based harassment, bullying, intimidation, and/or discrimination.

Please visit the  Respect for All Handouts webpage which explains DOE policies and procedures for preventing and addressing student-to-student sexual harassment, gender-based harassment, bullying, intimidation, and/or discrimination. These materials also include contact information for supports and reporting instructions for parents, if the school fails to address their complaint or retaliates against them for making a complaint.

Additionally, Chancellor’s Regulations A-831 (Student-to-Student Sexual Harassment) and A-832 (Student-to-Student Discrimination, Harassment, Intimidation, and/or Bullying) are readily available at school; parents and students are provided hard-copies, if requested, if they do not have a way to access to the electronic versions.

The hard copies of A-831 and A-832 should also be paired with the family-facing Respect For All and FAQ (scroll down for translations) handouts, so that relevant resources and procedures are available when communicating with parents and students about an alleged incident, should an alleged incident arise.
